Craig Nigrelli

Craig joins 6 News as the co-anchor of Daybreak. Before returning to Omaha, he worked for WOWT’s sister station in Sarasota, Fla., as the weekday co-anchor of "Good Morning Suncoast."

Craig brings 32 years of broadcasting experience to the job. During his career, he has anchored and reported in markets including Buffalo, N.Y.; as well as Albuquerque, Minneapolis, Kansas City, and Wichita, Kan.

Craig also spent more than a decade as the main anchor at the CBS affiliate in Omaha. There, he not only anchored four evening newscasts daily but was also moderated political debates in races for Congress, U.S. Senate, Nebraska governor and Omaha mayor. In addition, he emceed big local events such as the Komen Race for a Cure, The American Heart Association Heart Walk, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association's annual gala.

During his career, Nigrelli has been involved in coverage of national stories including the Oklahoma City federal building bombing in 1995 from both his hometown in the Buffalo area, where the bomber was from; and reported on the first anniversary of the domestic terror attack in Oklahoma City. Working for KSTP, he traveled with the Minnesota National Guard in 2004 to Ramstein Air Base in Germany, reporting from Landstuhl Hospital on Americans wounded in the war in Iraq.

As a political reporter, Craig has interviewed presidents from Jimmy Carter to Joe Biden. As a field anchor, Craig covered the very difficult story of the Millard South school shooting in 2011, spending about six consecutive hours on the air reporting from the scene. He also flew to Chicago in 2016 for a one-on-one interview with Omaha native Archbishop Blasé Cupich, who had just been named a cardinal by Pope Francis.

Craig’s return to Omaha is a homecoming of sorts for him and his wife, Carol. When not on the air, you can often catch Craig playing pick-up hockey at one of the local ice rinks in town. His wife is also very active in the community: An accomplished musician, she plays her cello at various Catholic churches including St. John’s on the Creighton campus. In addition, Carol has written many feature articles for Omaha Magazine and spends a lot of time working in elder care.
